Gospel - Mt 13:54-58
It might seem that today's Gospel reading is disconnected from what we have been listening to the past days--the parables of the Kingdom. Today we see the rejection that Jesus experienced in his own hometown. What does this have to do with the Kingdom?
In reality, we are invited to discover one necessary attitude to enter in and enjoy God's Kingdom: the capacity to be surprised, just like children, for those who are like them enjoy it fully.
When we think that we know and control everything--like the countrymen of Jesus--we miss the opportunity to find signs of the Kingdom and let it unleash its power in us. This is a very “adult” position in front of life.
Mother Mary, grant us simplicity of heart and eyes of faith to see God's work in everything and so rejoice with him as you did. Amen.
