(Cf. Awit 130:5) Thanksgiving for the Pasig Missionary JourneyBy Resti Bautista and Santino Bautista The Verbum Dei Formation Center in Pasig City hosted a special year-end activity on December 8, 2024 for our Missionary Journey with the theme: Maghanda, Magtipon, Maglakbay Bilang Isang Pamilya. The event gathered more than 200 adults, teens and young children from the surrounding urban communities for formation, a showcase of talents in a brief program and simple snacks. This was followed by a Thanksgiving Mass celebrated by Fr. Patrick Vance Nogoy, SJ. An exchange of gifts among the MJ participants, servant leaders and Manila-Pasig disciples capped the festivities. Rosemarie Andol first joined MJ during the pandemic, when she was preparing to receive the sacrament of marriage (Batch 3). Eventually, she became one of the MJ servant-leaders. She shared her experience, “The MJ became a way for me to know the Lord, to understand deeply who Jesus is, as Savior. There have been many changes in my life, my views in life, my faith. Problems did not disappear but were not a big deal anymore, God is there, never abandoning us. With others, I became more understanding and caring, more selfless, more willing to love without regrets. At first it was just me, but I wanted my family to also know God. Now my kids are also active in the youth/teens. I want to share more effectively with others what I have received here, especially the Word of God. Nobody should not know God!” Four boys from the youth group reflected on their MJ experiences. John Leo shared, “The MJ helped me grow and learn what I should do, what is right and wrong. I also grew to discover the talents I can share.” Whendel added, "For me MJ is memorable and fun, I learn a lot from the lessons given.” Mark and Patrick happily agreed that the MJ led to unforgettable and happy encounters, such as the 3-day retreat in Tagaytay. Zerg, 12-years old, shared about what he learned at MJ: "I discovered from the parable of the lost coin that Jesus does not want anyone to be separated from him and he will find a way to find him." He added, "Here I experienced that even if you are poor, you can do great things and that is to love others, starting with helping with housework." "I understood the Word of God so I got even closer to Jesus and I became more friendly and kind," said 10-year old Ashley excitedly. She is part of the ukulele kids troupe. “My happiest experience at MJ was when you shared the Word of God with us." To end the celebration, Sr. Juvy Tenorio gave thanks for the 7 years of the Missionary Journey and expressed her deep gratitude for the unwavering dedication of the MJ Team to the mission. She exhorted everyone to praise God who “Prepares the way, gathers his people and accompanies us as we journey as a family with Christ.” Let us continue to pray as one family in this season of waiting, “We wait for the Lord and in his word we hope.” (Cf. Psalm 130:5) Resti with his wife Cecilia are in the formation course for Verbum Dei Married Couple Missionaries. Their son, Santino is 16 years-old and is a preacher in Season 16 of Daily Shots.
