Gospel: Mt 5:13-16 Your light must shine before others In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us of our place on earth -- we are not here to merely exist and satisfy our wants and needs. We are here for a higher purpose: to be the salt and light of the world. To be both salt and light of the world, we should learn how to work with and for others -- the salt attains its best purpose when worked with other things and the light works best when it lets itself be used for others to be seen. In the same way, we are invited today to do just the same and live for the betterment of others too. Father, Jesus, Holy Spirit, help us understand the calling of our lives to become instruments to live interconnectedly with others as we seize every moment we have on earth. Amen. #PrayVD

Gospel: Mt 5:1-12 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven The Gospel teaches us today that in whatever situation we might find ourselves in, we have Him. Feeling poor in Spirit? Mourning? Meek? Hungry? Hungry for righteousness? Merciful? Clean of heart? Our Lord proves to us again that He loves us not because of what we have, do, feel…. He loves us because that is who He is. And that’s what He pleases Him to do. Father, Jesus, Holy Spirit, help us always remember that Your love is never-ending, just like what You are...Amen. #PrayVD

Mk 3: 20-35 He went home and they went to seize Him Do we welcome Jesus into our hearts and our home? In today’s Gospel passage, Jesus’ own family had a difficult time accepting Him. Perhaps it was the unusual things He said or the way He dealt with sinners. Sometimes following Christ means to do unusual and out of the ordinary things, even if it means rejection by others. Let us have the courage to welcome Christ into our hearts and not reject Him. Let us also have the courage to stand up for Him even if we risk rejection. #PrayVD

Mk 12:38-44 She put in everything she had What does it mean to give God everything we have? Yes it could mean that we place everything we have at His disposal and for His glory. But it also means that when we give, we give with our whole heart and being. It means that we can give to another person without expecting nor wanting anything in return. Lord may we find our inspiration in You whenever we give of ourselves. Help us to be truly selfless. #PrayVD

Mk 12:35-37 He is more than the Son of David Is it possible to limit what Jesus can do or who Jesus is? We say that with Him all things are possible and this is true. But despite this we can put limits on Him when we fail to put our full trust and faith in Him. When we doubt what He can do for us and in us, we limit how much we can accomplish thru Him. Let us believe in Jesus with all our heart and mind! #PrayVD

Mk 12:28-34 Love is worth much more than burnt offerings Have you heard the saying that what is most essential is invisible to the eye? Today Jesus reminds us that loving God is far more important than exterior acts of worship. Going to the Holy Eucharist or making donations to the Church are very important and we must continue doing these. But let us not forget what is in our hearts. Let us, above all remember to love God, especially through our neighbors! #PrayVD

Mk 12:18-27 He is God of the living, not the dead. These days it seems like death is all around us. Will we put our Lord to the test because of our doubts and our discouragement, just like the religious leaders? Or will we continue believing and putting our trust in Him? If we see our Lord as the one who gives hope and life, we will find the strength to hold on no matter what we see happening around us. Lord help us to avoid the behavior of the Pharisees and help us not to out you to the test. #PrayVD

Mk 12:13-17 Render to Caesar what belongs to Caesar The Lord today reminds us of duty and obligation, even those duties we do not like or are tempted to abandon. Like the Pharisees we reject our duty because we resent the people who obligate us. But to neglect our duty is also to reject the Lord in a way. Lord help us have the godly view on our duties and responsibilities. Help us to see that to fulfill our duty is to honor You and that rendering service to others is really rendering service to You. #PrayVD

Mk 12:1-12 The stone the builders rejected became the cornerstone Our life is like the vineyard in today’s parable. The Lord has given us this one life to live and to bear much fruit. We tend out vineyards through good times and bad but we dont do it alone. God has sent Jesus to be with us. Do we reject Him though, like the religious leaders did? May we always joyfully welcome the Lord into our vineyard! Lord, thank you for the gift of our lives and the gift of your presence. #PrayVD

Gospel: John 16:5–11 “He will prove the world wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment.” (cf. John 16:8) Today, Jesus tells His disciples the things that the Spirit of Truth will do as He sends it to them – proving the world wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment. People in not knowing the truth may believe that they are always right especially when they experience power and authority. And when they feel that they are being vindicated, they persecute. Persecution is evidence that the truth always finds its way out. We may ask where God is in the current things that are happening. And these times when we think we are alone are also the times when we would feel most of the presence of the Spirit of Truth. May we have the conviction that the Spirit of Truth is always here for us to be an advocate in our faithful and truthful endeavors. #PrayVD |
