Death of the Reverend Fr. Jaime Bonet Bonet, Founder of Verbum Dei Missionary Fraternity

Picture
Death of the Reverend Fr. Jaime Bonet Bonet, Founder of Verbum Dei Missionary Fraternity
Father Jaime Bonet, Founder of the Verbum Dei Missionary Fraternity, which is a part of the Verbum Dei Missionary Family, died on June 25th, in the Henares University Hospital (Coslada, Madrid). The vigil chapel will be located, from Tuesday 27th until Wednesday 28, at the Chapel in Centro Internacional de Formación Misionera Verbum Dei; at Velilla de San Antonio-Loeches road, Km 3.5 CP 28890 Loeches – Madrid.  The Funeral Mass will be held at the same location on Wednesday 28th at 8pm, local time. Rev. Jaime will be buried, on Thursday 29th at 1pm, in Siete Aguas, at the Verbum Dei Missionary Centre; on Avellan st. number 42, CP 46392 Siete Aguas, Valencia.

Father Jaime was born in Alqueria Blanca, Majorca, Spain, on May the 21st, 1926; and was ordained priest on May 31st 1952. He was a passionate and tireless preacher. His work of evangelization gave origin to the Ecclesial Institute of Consecrated Life: Verbum Dei Missionary Fraternity. Verbum Dei received its pontifical approval in the year 2000. The Fraternity has male and female celibate missionaries, priests, and missionary married couples; it reaches into the Verbum Dei Missionary Family, which consists of lay devoted to the same charism and mission

In 1994, He took part in the Synod of Bishops: “"The Consecrated Life and Its Role in the Church and in the World." He was there as founder and representing the New Forms of Consecrated Life. We remember some words from his intervention at the Synod: “To be witnesses to Christ –before being teachers- requires of us to be able to answer, with the same words of Jesus, to anyone who asks reason of our way of life: “Come and see.” Out of charity and justice, this life shaping adhesion to Christ is the first ideal and the essential theme that we cannot but present to every person. Both the young and the old are more passionate about being than having and doing. They will want to follow Jesus when they see lives that are rooted in Christ and fully realized and happy. They are convinced most by coherence between Word and life. (…) To imitate Christ captivates the hearts of today’s men and women.”

After these last years of illness, fruit of his total self-giving for the sake of evangelization, we understand his death under the light of the grain of wheat that falls on the ground and dies in order to bear much fruit (cf.Jn.12:24)

He leaves within our hearts the missionary command that Jesus gave to his disciples before ascending to heaven: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.” (Mt.28:19) These are words that echo in us with all the strength of an apostle who devoted his life to form other apostles.
