Gospel John 6: 52-59 ”Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.”In today's gospel Jesus says that His flesh is true food and His blood is true drink, whoever eats His flesh and drinks His blood remains in Him and He in them.
By giving Himself to us as food, Jesus desires to become one with us and at the same time, He gives us a way to show our desire to be one with Him--by receiving Him in our heart and body in the form of food, the bread and wine. Jesus wants to be fully united with us as He gives His body and blood for us. The Eucharist is not just remembering what Jesus did, it is also the source of our strength to do what He has done. It is a call for us to share our lives, to give ourselves and to become in some way the body and blood of Christ for others--that seeing and listening to us they may see and listen to Him. |
