Gospel: Jn 20:11-18

“Woman, why are you weeping?”

In the Gospel today, Mary was weeping as she was not able to immediately recognize Jesus until Jesus called her by her name: “Mary!”. Many times in our lives, we too are Mary – never realizing Jesus is right in front of us because we are too busy minding our worries and hurt. But how beautiful is it that no matter how oblivious we seem to be of Jesus’ presence, Jesus knows how to remind us who He is – by reminding us who we are. By calling us with our very names.

Lord Jesus Christ, help us recognize you beyond our tears and hardened hearts as we know you are the one who knows us best, as while we see ourselves sad, lonely, in pain; we remain to be ‘Mary’ to you.
