Gospel: Matthew 10:16-23 “Be clever as snakes and innocent as doves” Mt 10:16 In sending out the twelve disciples, Jesus said to them, “I am sending you like a sheep among wolves. You must be clever as snakes and innocent as doves” Two symbolism with contrasting imagery. The world then and as now are still hostile to Christians. As we carry-out missions, Jesus said we must be wise as snake (emulating the shrewdness in a good way) and be innocent (not gullible) as dove. St Paul in his missions also modelled this character, discerning at all times so as not to jeopardise his ministry. Always in good conscience with God. Gentle and not pushover, giving without being taken advantage. Shrewd and assertive for he knows his rights and the truth! Holy Spirit, we come to you for the gift of wisdom, gentleness and kindness. To live a balance between being a serpent or dove as the situations calls for it in our daily missions. Amen! #PrayVD |
