Daily Guidelines: July 20, 2018July 20, 2018 - Friday Gospel: Matthew 12:1-8 I desire mercy, not sacrifice (Mt 9.13) When we see others commit wrong acts, we feel bad and we judge them because they did something wrong. We initially react based on what we feel and what we know.
In the gospel, the Pharisees were quick to judge the disciples who became hungry and ate the grains in the field. They rushed to Jesus and told him. They said it was unlawful based on the Sabbath law. In response, Jesus told them a powerful message, “I desire mercy, not sacrifice.” He said that there is something more than the temple and the sacrifice. Jesus invites us to have a compassionate heart and extend our mercy to other people.
At this moment, let us examine ourselves. Are we like the Pharisees who are quick to judge at the moment we see others doing wrong things? Let Jesus be our inspiration in planting the grains of mercy in our hearts so that we may be compassionate to those who need it. Amen. #PrayVD |
