October 7, 2019 – Monday
Gospel: Luke 10:25-37

“The man who treated him with mercy. Go and do likewise.”

We are familiar with the parable of the Good Samaritan, who took pity on the poor man and had him treated of his wounds. Most often, we are guilty of passing by a homeless person on the street, with not much compassion but more of disdain and contempt. We cross the street just to avoid breathing the same air as he.

It takes a lot of courage and love to approach someone so unloveable, much so if he has open wounds coming out of his every pore: physical sores, wounds from lack of love, and abandonment, ignorance or societal negligence. Let us bring more wounded neighbors to the “inn” – the Church – that they be healed and cared for.

In this feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, let us seek Mama Mary’s help for us to be more deeply touched by our neighbors’ plight.
